We are currently fifth graders at Gulf Breeze Elementary Shcool
in Gulf Breeze, Florida. We're right next door to Pensacola and
a bridge away from the Gulf of Mexico. After Hurricane Ivan (when
we were fourth graders)and missing 19 days of school we filled a
wall of charts with our memories of the storm. We took those charts
and wove them into a story. Our story was a hit around school and
so we shopped it to a publisher. The publisher suggested we add
tips, activity pages and a webpage. And here we are now with our
own book and the Hurricane Kids Network. This webpage will become
a central meeting place for all hurricane kids to share stories,
tips and pictures. We've all been there and we all can help each
other.
The new book When the Hurricane Blew was written and illustrated
by the 4th graders (affectionately known as Mann’s Miracles).
It was inspired by their experiences in dealing with direct hits
from two major hurricanes within a single year which devastated
their Gulf Breeze, Florida community.
The Hurricane Kids Network™ is a nonprofit corporation founded
by the Gulf Breeze Elementary School Mann's Miracles Class or 2005
and is a classroom project of all Mann's Miracles classes to come.
Each Mann's Miracle 2005 is a voting member of the all-kid Board
of Directors. The Hurricane Kids Network(tm) uses the royalties
from their book to help hurricane affected kids everywhere through
charitable donations and management of the Hurricane Kids Network
website.
